Nestled conveniently near the airport at 578 E Oakton St, this cozy yet vibrant ramen restaurant delivers a dining experience that blends traditional flavors with a contemporary twist.

The menu at Chicago Ramen is a treasure trove of hearty, soul-warming dishes with standout highlights like the Spicy White Miso Ramen featuring a perfectly soft-boiled Ajitama egg that melts in your mouth, bursting with umami richness. If you love your ramen with bold, deep flavors, the Red Miso Ramen and the Spicy Miso Ramen bring an intense, aromatic warmth that lingers delectably after each sip of the broth. For those seeking variety, the Tsukemen Ramen offers a wonderfully interactive experience where you dip cold noodles into a flavorful, concentrated broth, while the Mazesoba, priced at $15.95, delivers a saucy, broth-less noodle dish that’s deceptively complex and deeply satisfying.

Vegetarians are also thoughtfully catered to, with the Vegetable Ramen series providing fresh, vibrant, and perfectly seasoned bowls that never feel like an afterthought. Each bowl, whether spicy or rich with egg, is crafted using the freshest ingredients, ensuring every mouthful is both nourishing and flavorful.

Side dishes such as the crisp Side Gyoza, creamy Pork Buns, and delicate Takoyaki round out the menu and invite diners to explore a range of textures and tastes. The Garlic Edamame offers a simple, addictive appetizer that pairs perfectly with any ramen bowl, while the more adventurous can savor the tender Salmon Carpaccio or the hearty Beef Ramen options.

Chicago Ramen’s atmosphere is intimate and inviting, with a small but welcoming dining space that fosters a sense of community and authenticity. With only a few tables and bar seating around the kitchen, the experience is personal—diners get to witness the care and precision taken in each dish’s creation. Reviewers have frequently praised the friendly and professional staff, noting how the manager, Ty, adds a genuine warmth to the establishment. The cozy setup makes it ideal for solo diners or small groups, though larger parties might need to plan accordingly due to limited seating.

Many customers have been impressed by both the flavor and value. As one guest remarked, the ramen is packed with flavor and offered at a reasonable price point—the broth is richly flavored, though occasionally a bit oily, which some might find adds to the comforting nature of the dish. Another visitor shared how the shrimp wonton ramen and gyoza were so memorable that they would happily make the 4-hour drive again just to indulge in these specialties.

Great atmosphere and good ramen at a reasonable price. Can be a bit oily so hard to drink too much broth, but still flavored excellently.

Came here right before getting on a 13 hour flight which in hindsight might not be the best idea before a long flight but luckily I didn’t get a stomachache. Location is pretty close to the airport as well. I’ve been to other location which was smaller and colder temperature wise but this one just has three 4 seater chairs and chairs surrounding the kitchen area. I ordered the Beef Curry Ramen which seems to be a bigger portion size than others for some reason. I really like it. Meat is tender and soup is hearty. They’ve got different levels of spice ranging from No Spicy to Killer Spicy with 4 fire signs on the top of the menu. I went for 1 fire sign and was sweating and face red afterwards but that might just be me.

Out of town with some people and we stop there on our way back to saint louis. I think I may actually be willing to take the 4 hour drive to come. My shrimp wonton ramen and gyoza was the best. I cant seem to find it here.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Des Plaines! Manager Ty is professional and genuinely cares about his guests. The staff is polite, efficient, and friendly. The Japanese Calamari was crispy perfection, and the Chicken Ramen was comfort in a bowl. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.

Great place for amazing ramen. Just heads up there are only 2 tables for 4 people and there are seats by the bar/kitchen. So if you are bigger group keep this in mind.

We have been searching for the best ramen in Chicago, came across two really big restaurants and we went to all of them, some of them with really long lines, all of them were either overrated or just good enough not great or not really Japanese ramen, more like fusion(?), this place was the only place we came twice in 3 days, after eating multiple bowls of ramen, I got the white miso ramen, added some garlic and pepper later, either ways is so so so GOOD! So happy to have found a place with the right ratio of salty and umami with the perfect chewiness on the noodles, after so many bowls I'm so glad I found one place that is worth coming back! Also the chef here is really friendly and he knows what he is doing.
